I grew up with dogs. We always, always had a dog.
Once we had a cat and I hugged him too hard and he scratched me, so he…went somewhere. Not sure where.
But mostly, the dogs. My parents had a golden retriever named Missy when I was small, and truthfully? That dog has been the standard to which every dog I’ve ever met has been held.
I loved her. I still remember the day she died, how I was broken and sad and very confused. I was eight.
I never expected to have a dog as great as Missy. There have been close contenders, but none really fit.
Except now we have this dog.
His name is Rocky and every dog should be born just like him – trained and sassy and asskicking awesome.
I’m convinced that any dog named Rocky is automatically an awesome dog. We had a lab mix named Rocky that we adopted as a senior dog and he was amazing right up until the end.
For me, the biggest downside to living on a boat is I can’t have a dog. Sure many people do, but I think it’s downright cruel to have a dog who can’t just run out and play. I mean, look at Rocky – he has a yard. Doesn’t he look totally happily!
Wow, that’s uncanny, growing up, I had a dog named Missy, and then, after Missy died, we got a dog named Rocky! I can’t wait to get another dog for my own child!!
Hooray for Rocky! I too had a “Missy” once…his name was Lance and he was the most awesome-est (so not a word)…dog ever ever! Don’t think I could love a dog like that again. Maybe there’s hope after all…
Love this. Happy family!
I grew up with dogs too! We are such dog people. My husband, daughter and I just moved back home with my parents and I love living with dogs again include my “puppy” who’s now an old lady. I can’t wait to someday buy my little girl a puppy (with a ribbon around the neck and everything).
